life unexpected: watch the first act!

The CW’s new series Life Unexpected premieres next Monday, January 18 in Gossip Girl‘s timeslot, and in my opinion, it looks pretty good–like classic WB dramas. (How many of you just rolled your eyes when I said “classic WB dramas”?)

But seriously, this show, about a 16-year-old girl who finds her young birth parents in order to get emancipated and out of foster care, is very promising for the CW.

Plus, look how many classic WB actors are on this show! I count a full TWO!

The CW released an extended preview of the upcoming series Life UneXpected, which premieres on January 18 in Gossip Girl‘s timeslot. (It’ll soon move to One Tree Hill‘s spot during their hiatus; the move-arounds will make Mondays all-new all-spring.)

Despite the iffy title, which has that stupid extra capital X so that it spells “Lux” (the name of the main character, which in and of itself is a terrible name), the extended preview looks REALLYREALLYREALLY good.

In fact, I think I’ve already got a ship. WHAT.

Life UneXpected is the story of a fifteen-year-old girl in foster care trying to get emancipated. Here’s the official synopsis:

After spending all of her 15 years bouncing from one foster family to another in Portland, Oregon, Lux (Britt Robertson, “Swingtown”) has decided it’s time to take control of her life and become an emancipated minor. Her journey through the legal maze leads Lux to her biological father, 30-something Nate “Baze” Bazile (Kristoffer Polaha, “Mad Men”), who owns a bar, lives like an aging frat-boy with two slacker roommates, and is astonished to learn that he has a teenage daughter. Lux is equally astonished when Baze reveals that her mother is Cate Cassidy (Shiri Appleby, “E.R.”), a star on the local “Morning Madness” radio show, along with her on-air partner and real-life boyfriend, Ryan Thomas (Kerr Smith, “Eli Stone”). Lux has been listening to Cate’s voice on the radio as long as she can remember, so she feels an instant connection with the mom she’s never met. Baze takes Lux to meet Cate, who is shocked and saddened to learn that Lux has grown up in foster care, but thrilled to finally meet her beautiful daughter. When a judge decides that Lux isn’t ready for emancipation and unexpectedly grants temporary joint custody to Baze and Cate, they agree to try to get past the awkwardness and make a belated attempt to give Lux the family she deserves.

Obviously, season one will end with Cate breaking up with Jack McPhee, and she’ll eventually end up with Baze. OBVIOUSLY.
