bones: examining the variables for the season finale
I’ve spent the last three days laying by the pool with my best fangirl friends, trying to speculate on what could possibly come next for Bones‘s Booth and Brennan. Many, many hours; many, many beers; and many, many rewatchings of “The Parts in the Sum of the Whole” later, we’re no closer to determining what the finale will bring.
The conclusion is that there are just too many variables.
So since we can’t effectively speculate, I figured it might be appropriate to just list all of the variables we’ve identified and turn it over to the group as a whole to see if anyone can fit the pieces together.
Spoilers for the next six episodes are after the jump.
Variable: Brennan has the opportunity to leave.
A dig in Indonesia may take Brennan away from Washington for a year. We know she agrees to go; we don’t know if she actually follows through. There’s always the possibility that the show will pick up in the fall with a chronological year having passed, but that seems pretty far-fetched to me. Therefore, all signs point to Brennan Doesn’t Go. But why wouldn’t she go? We’d assume it has something to do with Booth, but what?
Variable: Booth has the opportunity to leave, too.
Sides show an Army Colonel approaching Booth at work attempting to lure him into a training gig with the Rangers. Master Sergeant Booth could help make sure a lot of would-be snipers won’t get killed. While I find this possibility intriguing from the perspective of someone who loves angst, I just can’t really imagine this happening. See, the pilot introduced this idea that Booth dedicates his FBI career to restoring his “cosmic balance,” saving as many lives as he took while he was out sniping bad guys. What’s the multiplier on the “taking” side when you’re training boys in marksmanship? Also, if Brennan’s leaving, Booth doesn’t really have a reason to stay.
Also, Booth has a kid now, and I can’t imagine him leaving little Parker.
Variable: Parker is in the finale.
Young Parker is participating in the season finale. This definitely seems to suggest he’s there to say a tearful goodbye to his dad, but there must be other reasons for his appearance, as well. Anyone got ideas?
Variable: It’s not just Booth and Brennan packing their bags. Hodgins and Angela are leaving, too.
Having just been married by a Justice of the Peace, Hodgins and Angela are setting off on a lengthy honeymoon. For everything to work out, Hodgins and Angela can’t leave, either. See, if everyone takes off for a year, they can pick up in the fall with a “one year later” title card and the procedural formula goes unaffected. But if Booth and Brennan stay, then Hodgela has to stay, too, so that they can help on the case in the season premiere. Makes sense? I suppose Hodgins and Angela could just cut their trip short in the premiere and zip home, but regardless, they can only take their lengthy honeymoon if we’re really going to skip a year. Which, as I mentioned before, I just don’t think can happen.
Variable: Oh, and Daisy, too.
Daisy’s going to Indonesia with Brennan. But, um, didn’t she just get engaged to Sweets? Hart Hanson spoke with the Wall Street Journal while doing press for the 100th episode and the interviewer asked a very interesting question. They commented on a theory (one that I myself have mused on in the past) that less-important couples get more airtime and Big Moments while the main couple is on the outs. (Think Hodgins and Angela get together/get engaged around the same time as Booth draws the line and Sully shows up.) The interviewer asked if this was an appropriate way to analyze the ways in which the Sweets/Daisy relationship and the Booth/Brennan relationship are being contrasted right now. Hart responded that this was a very insightful way of seeing things—and suggested that viewers keep this in mind as we move to the finale. Knowing that Daisy is heading off to Indonesia (possibly a death knell for her relationship with Sweets), doesn’t it then stand to reason that Booth and Brennan may be headed for something good?
I think it does.
Of course, I’d also like this just because it means that Sweets would be single again. And, hey, I’m available.
Variable: The case in the finale is about hoarding.
Literally, a guy gets trapped amidst his own junk and starves to death. It takes forever. It’s very sad.
Sweets tries to get Booth to consider that he himself may have a hoarding problem—latching onto things he doesn’t need to hang onto. Booth finds this ridiculous and says, rather, that he “collects.”
Moreover, the case is just terribly sad. Mr. Hoarder was in a relationship with a woman whom he loved and who loved him back, but she eventually left him because she couldn’t handle the hoarding problem. As it turns out, they got into an argument and she hit him with the object that he ended up getting trapped under. Might it be high time for Brennan to realize that she doesn’t want to die getting trapped inside of her house, with no one to come and find her until her apartment floor collapses under the weight of her junk and falls into the apartment below? Because, seriously, that would suck.
Variable: Booth and Brennan may or may not be in relationships with other people at this point.
In “The Predator in the Pool,” we’re going to meet Catherine Bryar, a marine biologist who starts the episode as a suspect and ends it as Booth’s girlfriend. Well, girlfriend may be a strong word, but you get the point. Although the actress playing her (Rena Sofer, completing the trifecta of OTPs she’s tried to sabotage) isn’t scheduled to appear in any more episodes this season, we know she’s mentioned in at least one episode beyond “Predator.” While at a fantasy rock band event, Booth removes a tie she gifted to him and wears it around his head. (It’s actually quite adorable.) Obviously, the tie doesn’t hold much meaning for Booth (as pointed by out people like Liz), but it at least means that he’s technically dating Catherine. Beyond that episode (“Rocker in the Rinse Cycle”), we don’t know what their status is. It’s always possible that after belting out “Hot Blooded” with the real thing, he realizes that he’ll never be able to settle for second best.
Brennan will also resume dating Hacker around the same time. First of all, this is ridiculous, because Temperance Brennan damn well knows she doesn’t have to settle for less than perfect bone structure.
If the show really does skip ahead a year, don’t be surprised to see Catherine show up in early season six as Booth’s Super Serious Girlfriend or even (eww, gross) his fiancée. (Don’t worry, I still don’t think this will really happen, although it does sound painfully Hart Hanson-esque.)
Variable: The final scene of the finale involves 200 extras.
Several scenarios are being posited by speculating fangirls everywhere.
Hodgins and Angela’s wedding reception? I feel like after a quickie JOP wedding at the courthouse and a fast-approaching honeymoon, these two don’t really have big ol’ party on the brain.
A security threat or other crisis at the lab or the FBI building? Interesting—and a bomb going off would sure give Brennan plenty of bones to deal with that would keep her from jetting off to Indonesia—but it just doesn’t seem very likely.
The one that seems the most likely is a showdown at the airport. Picture a montage. Sweets and Daisy saying their tearful goodbyes at security. Hodgins and Angela enjoying the honeymoon period at their gate. Booth and Brennan realizing in the same moment that they can’t leave each other and running—one long shot with loads of extras—toward each other through the crowded airport. Meeting in the middle of an agitated crowd, dropping their carry-on luggage and full-on making out. And then we hear over the loudspeaker that they’re ready to board the flight to Indonesia. Will she go? Will she stay?
Variable: David said that the last scene was hard to get through.
Most assumed that he meant it was emotionally hard to get through, which is still definitely possible. But if you go with the airport scenario, he could have just meant it was logistically challenging, what with all of the extras and the cameras and that pesky making out with Emily that he hates so much.
So those are all of the variables we have so far. Can you do the calculus?

I love your theories, b/c every single one includes them not leaving. It pains me to say this, but I really think them not leaving is not an option. I believe they will both leave. What do you think about the marriage? There is this interview in which DB basically said it was B&B getting married.
Can you please tell me where to find this?!?!?!?!?! I am in serious need of some good news reight now
No I couldn’t do the math, but Zack could do it in his head in about 5 seconds as we saw in The Parts in the Sum of the Whole!
Is it certain that there’ll be a possible journey to Indonesia?
Because it looks to me that you stuck just with the idea that a character will travel or something.
I think Brennan and Booth belong together, so all my theories have they realizing they need to be with each other.
Either way, my variable is Booth is with Catherine but not completely happy, and so is Brennan. Then Brennan decides to put her heart out and the episode ends with Booth trying to decide or something.
I would say visit my blog, but it is in portuguese
Very good post!
The sides specifically say there is a dig happening in Indonesia; later, Booth comments that they will be separated for a year.
sorry but what sides??? and when does booth say that?? I would love to know – huge fan!!
I suspect that Dr. Bryar will be the proof to Brennan that she can’t hang around and watch Booth “move on.” Even though the Queen Bee episode may be lighter in tone than #100, when B/B hold onto each other in the slow dance, it will be simultaneously wonderful and excruciating for both of them. Everything has changed now. She thinks she can still hang on to their professional partnership, although even that has expanded over the last six years to be more than a professional partnership. But now it is going to have to go back to the purely professional: no late night visits and drinks, no dinners, no being each others confidant, no being Parker and Booth’s village– and she won’t be able to stand that loss. Their partnership is dying. Both Brennan and Booth drew the Death tarrot card in Harbingers. The Death card means transformation — a symbolic, not physical death. Their partnership, as it has evolved to this point, has to die before it can be reborn into something else.
At the same time, Dr. Bryar is going to be Brennan-lite, just as Jared was Booth-lite. She will be beautiful, smart and probably have other qualities as well, but she won’t be Brennan and she isn’t The One. He’ll keep trying to make it work with her (and use her to poke Brennan in the eye), but once you’ve met THE One, you can’t just turn off those feelings. Maybe he’ll find it difficult to “do” this in front of Brennan. It doesn’t help having your soul mate as a witness when you’re auditioning for a new one.
In the meantime, I think Booth will fall in love with Brennan again in the GD trial (remember he heard her say that they weren’t in love with each other in #100). (HH foreshadows this with the Blue Line episode when Booth tells Brennan that when Eddie found out what the officer did for him, he fell in love with her all over again.) I suspect that Caroline will force Brennan to explain not only what lengths Brennan went to to save Booth, but why she did. HH may even choose to bring up the Note (that I still don’t think she wrote) from her own ordeal with GD. This will be evidence to Booth of her feelings for him, feelings she has had for a long time.
As Caroline says in the finale , B and B are running away from each other. so hard they are working their last case. They are contemplating ending their partnership, because they have finally realized they can’t be together if they can’t BE together. Hart said that the finale would payoff #100 in a big way. Having them go their separate ways doesn’t do that. I think there will be a recognition that they need to create a new life and a new partnership on the ashes of their old one. How far down road Hart goes before the screen goes black, I couldn’t begin to guess because Hart can be a tricky one. I agree that Hart’s analogy to a seesaw, with B/B being down when the other Lab pairings are up also points to Brennan and Booth not leaving, as Daisy gets on the plane for Indonesia.
Also — the skeleton that SN tweeted is supposedly someone we know. I always thought the GD trial would be the finale, with Taffett being let go because of the illegalities used against her. Then, Taffett would be found dead (killed by the real GD, as Taffet was only an accomplice) in order to set up Brennan/Booth as her killer — thus, splitting the partners. I even imagined that the coma dream scene where the police come to Booth/Brennan’s door to tell them about a murder, would be mirrored with authorities bringing news of Taffet’s death. The sides, however, appear to show that Taffett is found guilty. If Taffet ends up dead in jail, it is harder for her to become a skeleton. And given that it would appear Fox wants Bones to go beyond the sixth season, I assume we’re not going to get the bedroom scene from EitB this year.
Thought it was interesting that Emily did not feel the end scene was difficult — intense, but not difficult.
Of course, I haven’t been right about anything…ever.
Lorna
Okay! I love all of these theories! But… I have 2 scenarios thought up (1 of them being incredibly unrealistic!)
YAYAYAYAYAY
-you try and point out the unrealistic one
1. when the GD case happens, Caroline forces Brennan to read the note as a “sympathy vote” from the jury, but of course Caroline always has a hidden agenda (hint hint wink wink) and that causes Booth to completely and utterly fogetabout Dr. whats her face and once he knows Brennan loves him too, he decides not to take no for an answer and convinces that Brennan and he can work out.
2. While Brennan is with Hacker (GAG), she realizes that she is utterly and madly in love with Booth. Goes up to him in the middle of his date with the other chic and admits it and then they kiss and what not right in front of that man stealer. So ya… Dr. Marine lady and Assitant Director Hacker end up unhappy and B and B are t0gether FOREVER! YAYAYAYAYAY
I really hope that option 2 is going to happen, but i mean i am thinking number 1 either way they end up 2gether so i dont really care!
Love the thought you have put into this, Lorna.
We are all in the dark. HH set the finale up beautifully in the “there are SO many variables and so many ways he can run with it” dept. Genius. And, like with the 100th, even when we already know things, what they DO with what we know can (and hopefully will) still take us by surprise.
The only thing I will throw out there is regarding Parker in the finale. Instead of him being there to see his dad off at the airport, he could also be in the episode to play a scene with his dad that helps Booth decide not to go anywhere.
They have written the ep, shot it, and we will see it when we see it, but Booth agreeing to train young men to be snipers just doesn’t make sense to me, on so many levels. I could see him deciding to go on some secret important assassin mission himself (hating it but doing it) before I could imagine him teaching others to be snipers. Not at this point in his life, for all the reasons Lorna pointed out above.
The part that made laugh was “…and that pesky making out with Emily that he hates so much.” Love it!
It’s definitely his least favorite part of the job. Definitely. :p
The reality is that the “big transformation” can only go so far. This show has a very definite tone that viewers have come to expect. Sure, the showrunners can change things up a bit…don’t want things to get stale, after all. But there’s a basic formula–a mix of humor, romance and pathos–that has made the show as popular as it is. Booth and Brennan are partners. This partnership may range from easy to strained and back again, but the show won’t work without it. Remember–change in a TV show always leads to a new version of NORMAL.
Let’s set aside Brennan’s trip. She’s always going somewhere. There’s nothing new there unless she gives up the trip specifically to stay with Booth.
Booth leaving is a different story.
I think that Booth may very well go off for a year. But he’ll be back. And after some awkwardness in the beginning things will be much like they’ve always been—feelings building until something has to happen.
The type/degree of awkwardness at the start of the season will probably depend on how Booth and Brennan leave things… Is he going because he needs to at least try to forget her or does she admit her feeling for him and he still goes because he feels it is his duty? Maybe he needs to go to prove to Bones that he’ll be back and his feelings for her will be as strong as ever. Season 6 could open with her either recognizing this or being upset that he “abandoned” her the way everyone else in her life has abandoned her. Maybe she’ll be working with a new agent and Booth can’t quite pick up where he left off the way he expected. Or maybe Booth will have seen things during his military duty that haunt him and get in the way of his relationship with Bones. Remember that before they decided to make Zack Gormagon’s apprentice, they had planned a post-Iraq arc for him. Add the fact that there’s talk of delving into Booth’s family backstory and there’s lots of possibilty for angst.
Or maybe Booth doesn’t go. And this is how he proves he loves her.
The point is that if the finale is truly a “payoff” for episode 100 it must give us something good. That’s what a pay off is in my opinion…compensation for something taken or lost. 100 tore our hearts out. It’s only fair that the finale put them back again.
I agree with your speculation. It seems that our hapless pair is going to have to contend with any number of obstacles — Bryar, Hacker, the Gravedigger, etc.
But one of the things that was said in an interview with SN and HH at the 100th celebration was that B&B are the center of a universe of people. The center must hold. But how can they be a couple and be in a partnership if the FBI frowns on that? Doesn’t that throw off the dynamics of the show?
I can’t see either Booth or Brennan taking off for a year. Well what’s a year in TV time? But the only way that really works for me is if one or the other has moved on to another relationship or have made significant changes in their work. Then the other flies in, fights for the other in some way, creates more angst, more conflict.
The writers/producers tend to think outside of the box and they have created a gem in the 100th. It unabashedly alludes to the season 4 finale and has the two Bs declare their love without once being sappy or cheesy or disingenuous. The last 3 minutes ache. It resets the relationship and puts it at the forefront. It cannot be ignored.
Which is why I have great hope for the finale. I think the next several are going to be a learning curve for Brennan. How will they get where they’re going?
I think I’ll trust in the powers that be.
Great job with the article, nice way to lay out the rather mind-boggling end of the season possibilities! When it comes to Bones, my mind never really stops wondering; I’m always trying to figure out its next step.
I saw Sweets’ proposal coming, and I had an inkling Brennan would be the initial naysayer when it came to a romantic relationship. As for what is yet to come, I, like most fangirls, am having a hard time pinning down any one scenario. I agree with you that I don’t see a one-year time jump in our future, and I also think the Sweets-Daisy relationship will be pushed to the forefront now that B&B are biding their time and Hodgela is eloping. I remember reading somewhere that a Styrofoam cup and confetti was going to be very important to the finale, so could this mean we’ll be seeing Sweets and Daisy’s wedding? And could Parker being appearing as their ring bearer? While Hodgela is definitely getting married, I can’t imagine them, as you said, pulling off another big wedding.
As for the hoarding plot line and Sweets’ comment to Booth, “Bones” has always been very good at relating case story lines back to its characters’ lives; everything seems to mean something. So what will the finale hold for B&B? Following the 100th, it’s really hard to say, but I imagine, good (hook-up) or bad (going their separate ways…for now) it’s going to be very emotional. I deemed the 100th as “The Point of No Return”. With Booth laying his feelings on the line like that, things between the two partners can never be the same. And while he said he’s going to move on, and will end up dating “she who shall not be named”, his love for Brennan will not fade. He is basically biding his time until she can catch up. As for Brennan, I’m interested to see how she will deal with Booth’s dating. Yes, he dated Cam before while Brennan was around, but never under the pretext of knowing he really loved her. Maybe this will be the eye opener Brennan needs, culminating in a very intense airport scene where she admits her own feelings (that’s my guess for the 200 extras, followed by Sweets’ and Daisy’s wedding). That’s my guess for what the rest of season 5 will bring, I can’t wait to see the final outcome!
I was disappointed in the 100th episode. I was exspecting more from Brennan. Okay I can handle the outcome, my problem was her lack of … anything. I felt like she has shown more
“emotion” for booth in any other episode. I just wish there was more of an explanation for booth. The real Booth never would have just taken it like that. WHY . I mean we all know why, but lets hear it come out of her mouth…
I always love your spec. Even if it never happens in the episode, it always makes more sense to me than the actual plot itself, heh.
Maybe Brennan will “get off the plane.” hahaha. I kid, I kid. Anything to reference Friends.
What a compliment! Thanks for coming over. And let’s just hope it doesn’t end with us screaming “DID SHE GET OFF THE PLANE?”
Putting 2 HH tweets together…
“We will see Daisy again this year. And how.”
Plus
The skeleton of someone we know.
Plane crash? Brennan identifying victims? Maybe she was supposed to get on the plane with Daisy, but she decided to stay with Booth?
I’d call that “intense” (ED) and “difficult to get through” (DB).
Wow Lorna, you really thought this through! Your deductions sound very logical to me. It is impossible to predict the future minute-by-minute but you must be in the ball park
Excellent post. One thing, though, is that while all couples may go ahead on their adventures, and then for some reason, be called back to the Jeffersonian for the premier, in real time, for some major reason.
What if the final scene is a fair well party for Brennan & Booth, Jack & Angela, and Daisy? Wouldn’t this involve alot of Jeffersonian staff and FBI agents? What if it took place in the lab?
This would reflect back on the party at the end of ‘The End in the Beginning’ with Motley Crue playing.
What if Booth and Brennan are on the upper platform looking down on the crowd then they each decide not to go their seperate ways but to try out a relationship?
Drippy
I actually pictured the airport scene for the finale, except not with all the couples and making out. I had imagined Booth with Parker on his shouders talking to Bones, who had her bags. I have no idea why, maybe he’s trying to convince her not to go?
Okay here it goes.
Rumor/fact:
1. Daisy is doing pilot for another show.
2. Hacker is doing pilot for another show.
3. Emily has mentioned in a couple interviews that Brennan has not given up on having baby.
4. HH has said the wedding will be one of the 3 main female characters.
5. David has said in inteerviews that Booth declared his love Brennan was not ready maybe Brennan will come around and Booth won’t be ready.
Wild Speculation:
Hodgins and Angela elope.
Brennan sees thru the next eps that she does love Booth, but because he has moved on he is not open to the possibilty. She still wants a piece of him and decides to use his stuff to get pregnant. She finds out she is pregnant just before leaving and doesn’t want to have baby in a foreign country and decides not to leave.
Daisy gets on plane and it crashes or Brennan and Daisy appear to get on plane, Brennan gets off at last moment Daisy doesn’t and plane crashes, but we don’t know till next season that Brennan is alive.
What it all comes down to is that we will have alot of fun/agongy watching it unfold and speculating about it.
I’ve seen multiple people speculate that Carla Gallo MUST be leaving because she’s doing a pilot for another show, but: a) Most pilots don’t work out, so that doesn’t mean she’s got a job next year and b) Daisy appears infrequently enough that she could conceivably be doing another show and still show up on Bones now and then. If her other show does work out, she certainly won’t be becoming a regular or anything, but it doesn’t mean they’re going to kill her off, people!
Havent read the sides but maybe it plays out where they do both leave or i am more in the mind set bones leave. (Really dont think Booth would ever leave.) Then something happens where they are all pulled back together sooner than expected (sooner than a year later.) Seems like an obvious solution…someone close to them all passes away or even better in my opinion- someone needs rescuing and the teams pulls to together. Just another possiblity.
love your thinking and I totally agree. The thing about the skeleton they all know or something…makes me think that someone they all know might die which brings them all back together to solve the murder…
In the sides, doesn’t (Hodgins??) someone comment that Brennan ISN’T going to Indonesia as planned?
One other thing to factor into the equation: Both Emily and Stephen Nathan have said things in interviews that very clearly point to B&B getting together – or at least taking another step toward getting together – in Season 6. These aren’t definite, but they WERE said after the filming of the finale was completed, so I doubt they would say those things if they get together in the finale. Unless our chains are being collectively yanked, which is possible.
I’ve also seen in interviews that they are hoping to get them together in season 6. However the Hodgins comment is just him speculating. The sides showed everyone in the lab speculating on whether Booth and Bones will actually leave or not. Caroline says that she thinks that they will leave and won’t be able to work together when they come back, whereas Hodgins doesn’t think they’ll really go. Grrrrrr I want to know who’s right!
First of all, love this post! I’m not really going to comment on my ‘theory’ for the season finale, because I still believe your guess is as good as mine(: Hart Hanson sure knows how to leave us fangirls guessing! But I do want to mention one thing;; about the dead body twitter picture that was titled ‘Guess Who’
I read through some of the comments, &+ I saw a few that stated ‘Caucasian, Male, 3O-4O years of age, &+ 5’9” to 6’1” &+ it looks like he’s wearing some sort of sports jersey?
http://yfrog.com/668sdj
?
So just thought I’d add ANOTHER variable into this crazy, complicated, yet amazing mess(x lol! I dont have any guesses. It could easily just be another murder victim, but the way it was titled ‘Guess Who’ made me think that it was someone we knew//was mentioned…
Sully maybe? His chin was large &+ square, right?
Pssh! I have no idea(x I’ll just wait &+ see!

I really hope they don’t leave, but I think that resuming next season a year later is the most logical explanation. This way, Brennan and Daisy can go on the dig, Booth can go back to the army, Hodgela can go on their honeymoon, and Cam and Sweets can hang out and be bored for a year. I am keeping my fingers crossed and wishing on every 11:11 that this doesn’t happen though.
While I have not read many of the sides, I wonder if Parker is the link here. Parker might request that they both stay – that he needs them. I think B& B would find it difficult not to comply with Parker’s request.
I forget to mention earlier, love the article. I’m enjoying reading and joining in all this guesswork and deducing. :L
Anyway, I was going to mention the body titled ‘Guess Who’ also, Just the fact that, be it wishful thinking or not, many people believed it to be Sully or Hacker. However I personally hope it not them (Or Booth, or anyone really.) Because aside from maybe Hacker, I love all of them. D:
Aha. Maybe it’s the hoarder? Or, whatever…
I don’t think they’d kill Daisy off just because she has another pilot. Same with Hacker really. I hope sometime Hacker’s out the big messy equation that is BB but frankly we haven’t seen enough of him so that he really played a part.
Great article! I also love all the theories. Isn’t it amazing what the mind can come up with when it thinks of nothing but Bones, Booth, Bones, Booth, BonesBooth . . . I think any of the scenarios would probably work coming from the brain of HH. But realistically, I don’t think having the characters apart for a year would in any way improve the series or the characters themselves. According to above comments, the finale was “intense” and “difficult to get through”. Could mean many things! My opinion (which is always mostly wrong, believe me, when trying to figure out this show) is this: the last two seasons have ended with something bad happening to Booth (getting “killed” during the next to last episode the year before last, having the brain tumor last season). I think that this time around something will happen to Bones, whether physically or emotionally.
wow. so much is supposed to happen in the next 6 episodes that i have no idea how it will all fit together! but like all you fangirls im giving it my best shot! this is so fun!
1. B&B wont be able to ignore how good they are together no matter how hard they try.
a. First off, everyone is getting married- we know jared and his GF get engaged, Sweets and Daisy are def.engaged and hodgela gets married. we may not SEE all the weddings but at the very least its something B&B are going to be totally surrounded by!
b. they pretend to be married at her high school reunion, and slow dance. WTF?
c. the gravedigger trial? hello!?! each one has save the other’s life. they are going to have to get up on those stands and testify their love- THANK YOU for pointing out the possibility of that Note, Lorna! Yes! And maybe Hodgins and Angela will get to testify their love as well, which leads me to
d. Hodgins and Angela got nervous and ran away from one another, too scared to fully commit or acknowledge what they had (like brennan!) and I can’t see this not coming up either in the form of their wedding vows or an angela-brennan heart-to-heart. and if there is anyone to try and convince brennan not to run away from love right now, its angela.
e. yet another marriage point- just like Booth, Jared and his girlfriend fell in love at first sight, and just KNEW. if theres anyone to remind Booth that Brennan is his one and only, its Jared.
2. there is going to be a skeleton of someone we know…
a. the idea that it could be seely both makes sense with the skeleton- the chain, jersey, the fact that its a recent death and seemingly he was pulled from water not too long ago (judging by the way the flesh looks on the skeleton in the photo). However… would they really throw this doozy into the already doozying mess that we have in these final eps, with all the dating and marrying and drama?? it might set brennan off in an interesting way in that it will both bring her closer to seely by reminding her that he could be here one day and gone the next. but other than that i dont see it helping any other plotlines along much. well, it might make hodgela elope for a similar reason… anyways, only 50% sure about that one.
b. they wouldnt kill daisy. why would they have sweets be the one on the train with the guy who died in his arms and then do this to him? they’ve given sweets a dark past, a traumatic moment and a book gone to the shitter, so unless they wanted to just do him in for good, its not daisy.
c. has anyone considered another one of the interns? i know a lot of them are getting picked up for pilots and movies and such. and HH and crew are always talking about how they want to keep having new interns so killing one off is a great way to bond the remaining cast and open a spot for a new actor come season 6.
3.david said shooting the last scene was “difficult”
a. im sorry to burst everyones bubble including mine, but i dont think the scene with 200 extras was ‘difficult’ technically unless they pull out some action-movie hijinks amongst 200 extras, but thats not something that david would complain about, nor would it not be aomething HH would have neglected to hype us up about. its gotta be difficult in an actorly sort of way.
b. i know david is a big shipper for B&B and I would say that, whatever it is, its not some happy ending for B&B. we’ve been told that the finale is like the 2nd part of a two-parter with ep.100, but the whole cast has called the finale something akin to a ‘majorly unresolved’ so I highly doubt there is any… resolution in the B&B relationship there. i think ‘difficult’ could be booth making a difficult or controversial decision that david feels strongly about… like rejecting brennan or saying goodbye to parker…
c. HH & co have said that we are going to be exploring Booth’s attempts at moving on all throughout the 6th season (they have at least 2 more seasons coming, guys!) and HH has said his goal is to move them together logically while keeping them apart as long as possible. My guess is that Brennan still wont be able to commit by the finale (but will be totally stressed out about her feelings–see above, B&B wont be able to ignore it… etc). Hopefully she will make some kind of confession of her own, in her own way, maybe, even if its to angela and not booth. but STILL, our current situation is ‘Brennan needs to get to the point where she would be willing to marry booth’ and we’re simply NOT going to get there in the next 6 episodes.
yeah, so im not looking forward to the finale. because look at the way the seasons have ended in the past- something huge always happens, its never very good, and because its a season finale, you have to be thinking about it FOR EVER while you wait FOREVER for season 6. if we see B&B make out happily at the end, our brains will hum happily in slumber all those months rather than scream in agony. and to date, what has Bones been best at? warming our hearts, and at the last moment make them SCREAM IN AGONY!
thats what i think.
Here’s a new theory based on the conference call:
Re: Max coming back and never being an onlooker “He’s not an on-looker”
Re: Gravedigger story is still open
Maybe… just maybe, the Gravedigger is killed at the end of the finale. Max is the culprit -> to protect Brennan, Booth and the others from future harm/torment and Brennan sets herself up to protect Max from going back into jail. Booth comes to arrest Brennan at the end of the finale = cliffhanger.
And then they run away, get married, have babies, live happily ever after.
Okay, the last sentence was my thoughts running away from me but how outrageously cool would that theory be?
