mmm, good looking... // abc promotional photo
Last week, DarkUFO asked some of his contacts to provide little snippets about 6×04 to spoiler fiends. They came through, and their spoilers–with some thoughts from me–are after the jump!
- Episode 6.04 we learn of a connection between The Smoke Monster and MIB
- Fake Locke gets an old friend to join his army
- Ben lies to Illana about what happened inside the temple
- Jacob is dead and his ashes are collected by someone whose name has 5 letters
- Someone tries to persuade Sun to visit the temple claiming that Jin is there.
- Franks want to try and see if his plane on the other island will still work
- Sun insists they bury someone properly
- Frank makes a comment about the “weirdest funeral ever”
- Ben makes a touching speech
- Sawyer is drunk when he reunites with a familar face
- Someone reveals that they know a lot more about the island than Ben.
- We find out that Jacob has a child. Have a guess who you think it is. [Note: We know now that this is Ilana.]
- An old friend crosses paths with someone unexpected off island
Mostly, I’m excited to have a reason to care about Ilana. Although she’s been part of the show since “316,” she hasn’t done much, aside from delivering some of season five’s most cryptic lines. We’re getting the picture that she’s important (Jacob’s daughter! Holy crap!), and that she obviously knows a lot that she hasn’t yet shared. What I’m not understanding is how Fake Locke manages to survive to the fourth episode, titled “The Substitute” and expected to be, well, Locke-centric. One would imagine that after killing Jacob in cold blood and being revealed as an impostor of a dead man, that folks would have a lot of questions for that guy. Back in the day, they’d tie him to a tree and shove bamboo under his fingernails. Or lock him in the armory for days on end with nothing but a little Dostoevsky to entertain him.
The other thing, of course, is that I am terrified that Sawyer will cross paths with Kate off-island. We’d assume that this would be within the reset, so they wouldn’t know each other, and here’s the thing. NO. BIG BIG NO. As far as I’m concerned, one of the major points of going through with the reset is so that the show can use the first few episodes to demonstrate, without a doubt, that Jate is fate. It’s Jabrams’s old quote:
You could put Jack and Kate on a New York City street and have them pass each other at rush hour on a Wednesday morning, and they would stop and turn, slowing to watch each other go by. They know each other within the context of an universal recognition. They have met before this life, and they will meet again in another.
I will be supremely unhappy if the show does not explore this “universal recognition” theme, and it will probably send me into a fit of pessimistic anxiety for the rest of the series. If it has to be Kate, it has to be Kate. But I’m not going to like it. I will appreciate it if it’s anyone other than Kate. A drunk run-in with Jack could be interesting, or Sayid, or especially Juliet, if that’s possible. Just…anyone but Kate, okay?
