office: this fandom is bananas
There’s a fine, fine line between fandom and crazytown, and I’ll be the first to admit I spend a lot of time with one toe on the safe side of that line. And while it may take a hefty dose of crazy to understand or participate in fandom, a lot of the people out there are also incredibly funny, talented, and brilliant.
I’m currently obsessed with the finalists from OfficeTally’s “Toast to Jam” contest. OT’s moderator, Tanster, challenged fans to create a video “toast” to Jim and Pam for their wedding. Watching these videos–even the blatantly crazyface ones–filled me with glee. Not just for The Office, but also for fandom in general. I am constantly impressed by people, and I’m so glad that I share something with these people so that I can understand each and every one of their references. Everyone in these videos is genuinely excited about Thursday. Someone at work asked me what was going on with my life and I said, “Well, Jim and Pam’s wedding is keeping me pretty busy.” It was a joke, but it was also a little bit true. So I’m glad to know that out there, there are people who are even busier with Jam’s wedding than I am, because they took the time to WRITE LYRICS and record themselves singing a song about the wedding. I wish we were friends in real life.
After the jump are the three videos I voted for.
erinlee519′s poem is chock-full of Jam references–and I especially enjoy the ending.
Andrea’s video features her dressing up her young son as Mose Schrute. I have decided to have a baby specifically so that I can also do that. (Note to self: find a tolerant spouse.]
And mathishard’s SONG is so clever, so well-done, that I may or may not have actually teared up while watching.
