office sneaks: putting out (metaphorical) fires

When non-spoilery promos for Jim and Pam’s wedding started airing a couple weeks ago, I swore I was going to try to stay spoiler-free.  I loved seeing promos that reminded the audience just how much these two have been through, just how touching so many of their moments have been, just how monumental their big day is going to be.  I liked that the promos were getting me pumped without spilling too many beans.

But you put a sneak peek or a spoilery promo or an Entertainment Weekly cover in front of my face, and there’s NO WAY I can resist.

Spoilers are my kryptonite.

The most recent in a long line of spoilery goods to be released are some sneak peeks from NBC, discussed after the jump.

These all appear to be from the beginning of the episode, so they don’t spoil any big details.  We know that Michael is taking this wedding very seriously, and that Jim has expressly forbade him from giving a toast at the rehearsal dinner.  We also know (from the epic EW cover story) that Michael does indeed end up giving a toast–when he steps in to “save” Jim after the groom spills the beans about Baby Tuna.  The fandom seems divided at this point over whether Michael’s going to end up digging Jim and Pam deeper into their hole of embarrassment or whether he’ll actually have one of his revelatory moments where he manages to turn the moment around.  (Telling the “Booze Cruise” story wouldn’t be a bad idea.)

From promos, it also looks like Jam’s guests are going to be recreating the now-famous aisle dance; whether the bride and groom were part of the plan or whether it’s something Michael a guest graciously decides to spring on them has yet to be determined.  It certainly fits with the big picture we’re getting of Jam’s wedding turning into a big ol’ circus (we still don’t know how Jim’s tie ends up cut in half), and it’s clearing the way for the super-sweet reception-ditching that’s been predicted.

What I’m really hoping for at this point is some major Baby Tuna development.  Sure, we saw Jim get all fuzzified over the sonogram picture in the premiere, and we saw Pam staring down that doughnut last week as she debated fitting into her wedding dress or fulfilling Baby Tuna’s wishes.  But I want more, please!  I want Jim to touch her belly, talk to her belly, call Pam his babymama, come up with his own nickname for the baby, tell the baby how much he loves him or her, etc. etc. etc.  Is that really too much to ask?  Because promos and spoiler pics depict a Pam who’s significantly showing in “Niagara,” when the last three episodes have featured maybe just the hint of a baby bump.  Some folks are speculating that Pam’s belly “pops” on their wedding day; from the looks of the picture at right, it seems her secret wouldn’t have kept until after the vows anyway. (Even in the rehearsal dinner pics, she doesn’t seem nearly as big as she does in her wedding dress.) We also haven’t heard anything about whether or not the kid’s moving around in there yet; others are speccing that maybe Baby Tuna gives her parents a good solid kick as a wedding present–certainly nicer than a portrait by Michael.

Since we pretty much know Jim (accidentally) makes reference to the Jambino in his rehearsal dinner speech, and since we know flat-out that his speech is going to be ridiculously touching and precious, I have to believe that he gets so wrapped up in his heartfelt toast to the woman he’s always known would be his wife, that he can’t help but gush about their baby.  All this is to say that I hope the news comes out because Jim says something about “starting our life together with our baby,” rather than cracking a poorly thought out joke about Pam drinking water.

In any case, I’m over the moon with excitement for Thursday.  The last time an entire episode was dedicated to a non-angsty major wedding of this caliber–that I can remember–was Monica and Chandler’s, and that was eight years ago.  (How old do you feel now?)  If you’ll excuse me, I need to go jump around to get some of this anxious tension out.
