Last year, during the lengthy hiatus between seasons four and five, one of DarkUFO’s spoiler sources entertained and informed the fandom with a hangman-style guessing game.  Spanning the course of a couple weeks, we ultimately got some juicy spoilers about the frozen donkey wheel, Daniel Faraday, and Hurley’s sandwich-throwing endeavors.  Now, Dark’s source is back, spoiling some really intriguing stuff from the first few episodes of season six.  Spoilers and speculation under the cut.One puzzle has already been solved, and it has revealed the following:

“When Claire is giving birth in the alt timeline the name on the doctors coat is Doctor Goodspeed and its William Mapother.”

This gives us an incredibly important piece of information: the consequences of the Jughead explosion are felt immediately; there are more changes than just the safe landing of Oceanic 815.  Obviously, we know William Mapother as Ethan Rom; the fact that in the alternate timeline, he is not only off-island on September 22, 2004, but also known as Dr. Goodspeed, suggests that he has had a different background than what we are familiar with.  (Remember, of course, that Ethan’s father is Horace Goodspeed.  We never knew why or how he got the last name Rom, although I imagine it had something to do with joining up with the Hostiles pre-purge.)

This turn of events may also mean that the Comic-Con videos, which suggest that Kate’s victim was not her stepfather, that Hurley was un-cursed and the owner of Mr. Cluck’s, and that Oceanic Airlines has a perfect safety record, are indeed part of the alternate reality.

The latest hangman game has yet to be solved–and it’s a doozy.  It does look like the word “Jack” could definitely be part of the spoiler, a fact that makes me excited to get it solved.  I’ll keep this post updated as new letters are revealed and once the puzzle is solved–along with some exposition on what that resulting spoiler could mean.  These games, along with the alternate reality games (ARGs), are a great way to pass the time between seasons and work together with other Lost fans to perform nerdtastic tasks.
